Despite being the AHL’s leading scorer this season, Calgary Flames affiliate San Antonio’s Matthew Phillips has yet to be promoted to the NHL club. Where does his game shine and where does it falter?

On the 10th of November’s episode of The Hockey News On The ‘A’ Podcast, hosts Jacob Stoller and Patrick Williams discussed Matthew Phillips.

The right winger has scored nine goals to lead the AHL and has 14 points in 11 games for the Calgary Wranglers.

Even though he played in 65 games and scored 68 points for Calgary last season, the sixth-round selection from 2016 has only seen action in one NHL game, and that was in the 2020-21 season.

Does Phillips, who is at 5 feet and 7 inches tall, have a future in the NHL, either with the Calgary Flames or elsewhere, given that they ice some larger guys in the bottom six? Both Jacob and Patrick have something to say.
