Shawn Jefferson, wide receivers coach for the Cardinals, tells his son, wide receiver for the Rams Van Jefferson, to “keep fighting” on “Hard Knocks”
HBO’s Hard Knocks In Season: The Arizona Cardinals caught an emotional postgame moment between Rams wide receiver Van Jefferson and his father, Cardinals wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson, on a weekend when the Cook brothers, Dalvin and James, and the Chubb cousins, Nick and Bradley, met on the football field.
The Rams’ three-game losing streak was ended by Arizona’s 27-17 victory.
Near middle, when the wideout rested his head on his dad’s shoulder, Shawn added, “You played well, however.” “You still intend to fight, correct? Let’s get going. Keep going to the end. That’s the crux of the matter. You just have to put in the time, right? Persevere in your efforts. Hold steady and keep going. It’ll turn out well in the end. Keep fighting. Man, no one ever promised this wouldn’t be tough. You can take it from me; it’s going to be challenging. If you want to win, you have to keep fighting. That is all there is to it; keep fighting.”
Shawn kept on topic after a quick show of solidarity with Rams wide receivers coach Eric Yarber.
And then, he continued, “here’s the deal.” “After you’ve overcome this obstacle, you’ll be rewarded with another challenge if you keep fighting. Consequently, proceed. Shouldn’t we just keep going? Gentleman, I adore you.”
Both the Cardinals and the Rams have had more difficult schedules than expected this season. Both clubs in the NFC West, who will have playoff representation in 2021, have six defeats as of Week 10.

Following knee surgery at the start of August, Van missed the majority of training camp and the first six games for his side.
Since he came back, he’s been having a hard time. In Week 8, he was targeted zero times, while in Week 9, he was targeted five times but caught none of them. Van finished the game against his dad’s team with three catches for 27 yards and a score at the very end.
Van’s father stands on the other side of the field, but the two of them have a same goal: finding the end zone. Van has caught a touchdown pass in each of his three regular season games against the Cardinals since Shawn took over as wide receivers coach in 2021. He has grabbed 11 passes for 175 yards.

With Cooper Kupp, the reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, out for an extended period of time with a serious high ankle sprain suffered on Sunday, the Rams will need that kind of output and for Van to keep battling as his father instructed him if Los Angeles is to survive their 3-6 start.

Shawn attributes his knowledge to the older Jefferson. For 13 seasons, he endured the ups and downs of the National Football League, accumulating 470 catches, 7,023 receiving yards, and 29 touchdowns.
He plans on instilling in his Cardinals team the same kind of drive that he gave his kid. They, too, face an uphill battle.
